Who hears the word meditation and dramatically rolls their eyes? Me! Me! I do! My brain runs at about 3 million thoughts per second so the idea of meditating sounds excruciating for me. Trying to quiet my mind when I feel like it’s a three-ring circus in there all the time just seems like an act in futility. A total waste of time. But after having read so many articles and books that discuss the power of meditation for developing focus, I feel like it’s something I need to try.
Here’s my plan: to get up 5 minutes earlier each day for the rest of the month to meditate. When I say meditate, I mean to clear my mind of all conscious thought and to just be. Five minutes shouldn’t be tough, right? Either way, I’m going to add my daily mediation times to the bottom of my posts this month as a footnote. I know I’ll miss a few days, but holding myself accountable might make all the difference. If I miss a day, I’ll own it. Simple as that.
Do you meditate? What do you get out of it? I’m hoping to bring a level of peace and tranquility to my mind that I can’t normally reach. I’m hoping to quiet the chaos in my head by a decibel or two.
